A shelf is a shelf! If it holds stuff and is not tatty looking then why change it?? Sure, change scuffed desks and worn out chairs as the need arises. A coat of paint, without the mood swing colour chart ambience folk getting involved, here and there can work wonders too. But total replacement is just silly!!
