Rangers face second charge of sectarian singing by fans

BBC Sport - Rangers face second charge of sectarian singing by fans

Will the Rangers F.C. Choir Section ruin the club? Both Rangers and Celtic have played on their religious past. Celtic was set up by a catholic priest as a boy's club to keep kids off the mean streets of Glasgow. Rangers followed suit, a year later, doing the same thing for protestant kids. Supporters, claiming to be followers of one religion or the other, have claimed allegiance to one or other club. Many supporters couldn't spell God, never mind ever having attended a church or a chapel. many more have never set foot into the sports ground of either club.
However, there is a hard core group of supporters, of both clubs, who do go to the games on a regular basis. But they will insist in singing songs and parodies based on old ideals. They just have to move on and stop doing it.
PSV have noticed a way to get at Rangers by complaining about the singing of these songs and many more clubs will be doing so in the future. yes it is gamesmanship. But there is a lot of money at stake these days and any little irritation to put an opposing team off colour is perfectly acceptable to use against them.
Rangers are in huge financial difficulties at the present time. They desperately need a buyer who can inject new money. There is a potential tax liability to be sorted out. To me, anyone looking to buy Rangers, at present, would be better going on a holiday and sitting back awaiting the decision of the Revenue. If they go after Rangers for back taxes, then the money has to be there to pay them off, otherwise the Taxman can sell off Rangers assets via the appointment of an Administrator, who's only job is to sell enough, at any price, to pay the outstanding debt and the Admin fees leaving Rangers with the unsold assets and any small change. However if the taxman makes a move for recovery you can bet that every creditor will be doing the same thing at the same time in order to get their money which is owed to them. in which case Rangers is finished!
