Nigeria has always been separated by a North and South divide. The tribes in the North are poor and envy the Southern tribes. The South is further divide into two regions. One controls the oil, wealth and power and the other supports it from outside the money zone and receives subsidies. The north get little or nothing.
Prior to Goodluck Jonathan taking over any elections were won or lost along this divide with one side looting from the other. However, he immediately got his deputy prime Minister from the northern area along with some ministers.
This current re election has been full of dirty tricks and bombings, becoming a win at all costs election. Many of the old feuds have surfaced and many have been killed. He just got to try and reconcile two opposing camps.
