Consumer groups call for end to EU light bulb ban

Consumer groups call for end to EU light bulb ban

It is all very well telling people to change the size of their lightbulbs from 60 watt or 100 watt to a smaller size But to go to 11 watt is ridiculous. You can't read anything with them. There are whole areas of the floor that cannot be seen and getting about for the partially sighted is almost impossible.
Unlike the old lightbulbs which you could throw in the bin when done these new ones contain mercury powder which is a poison. These bulbs must be returned to a registered supplier who will then return them for disposal.
Just like the fridge/freezer fiasco with freone there are very few places which can destroy these bulbs safely.
If a bulb breaks near you do not inhale the mercury powder. If you do then phone a hospital, immediately, for advice or admission.
The EU wants them banned all over Europe and the UK has already done so. However I have posted a way round it. Garages use inspection lamps, with proper bulbs, to view the undersides of cars during MOT and other inspections. So if you ask nicely maybe he will add a couple onto your bill.
