British companies advertise 5,000 jobs in Romania as doors open to more EU migrant workers |
Many British people refuse to accept some jobs, no matter who hard the Benefits agencies try to fore them into it. This has always been the case. There is an employment snob value to be considered by the labour force even though they say that they hate snobbery. Immigrants will take any jobs, they don't care.
A long time ago, when the Caribbean islands were declaring independence from Britain, thousands came here and took jobs as postmen, bus drivers, tube train drivers and street cleaners. All of these jobs were frowned upon, by British workers, because of an early start or shift work or the menial element.
The next group of immigrants came from Uganda when Idi Amin threw them out. They had gone to Uganda when places like Malaya and Borneo became independent. They held British passports and so came to the Uk. They opened shops and built up empires of mini markets, which were opened late. They opened restaurants, in competition with the Chinese, who had been coming to Britain for decades They revolutionised Uk shopping and eating habits.
The British wanted to start at 0800hrs have a 20 minute tea break about 1000hrs then an hour for lunch at 1200hrs, followed by another tea break about 1500hrs and then go home at 1630hrs.
The Conservative Party under Margaret Thatcher sorted this out with Employment Acts.
Shops opened from 0800hrs and closed at 1730hrs. Some opened on Saturdays for a half day but never on a Sunday!
The Asian shops opened from 0600hrs until 2200hrs at night. Their children worked in shops after school.Family members helped out. They opened more shops and used bulk buying, via cash and carry wholesalers, to make big profits. British shops had to fight back and in came supermarkets. The rest is history. Immigrants have been good for Britain, in the past. So let's give these new ones a chance. We joined the E.U. and are stuck with it, until we can get out.
Scotland may have a chance to avoid the bulk of the immigrants when we gain independence, soon. We will have to apply to join, which I sincerely hope we do not do. The experience of the Romanians, Bulgarians,Macedonians, Serbs and Turkish people piling into the Uk may tip the balance.I do hope so.
