Plans were drawn and costed,decades ago, for a rail and road bridge, across the Aleutian Islands, between Alaska and Russia. As the weather is so bad up there, it was planned to fabricate pieces for six months and then transport and erect them for four months until completion. Both the rail and roadways would be enclosed in an outer tube to allow all year round use.
Just think!! What a road trip that would provide!!!! From the tip of South America through Central, round North America and Canada to Alaska. Crossing to Russia, then going south to China, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos. Then doubling back into Mongolia and central Russia,down to Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. Across into Europe and home for tea in Britain. What a fantastic journey!!
