The media is losing, through folks downloading stuff for free, shed loads of income as are the advertising folks. Have you noticed there are no longer adverts for coming attractions, in a cinema near you?? The films just appear in cinemas and local listings.
I joined Netflix and have figured out that I could,if I wanted to, just find all of the stuff, which I liked, then go to pirate bay or kodi and watch or download all of it. I could empty Netflix, completely, during the first free month. Their low monthly fees would then be dodged. What is it? £6 a month is 20 pence a day. Very cheap indeed. They don't put new stuff in often though.
Pirate bay have movies, music albums, including many artist's whole body of work, in Discographies. They have concert videos, E books, including most text books, fiction and non fiction plus audio books to listen to. They have loads of TV shows, old and new, many of which have whole seasons of shows. They have programs, which folks pay for. However, many include malware. Oh and they have shed loads of porn!! Downloading from pirate bay, using file managers like utorrent or bittorrent, is said to be illegal. As far as I know nobody, anywhere, has ever been charged with downloading as such. Again,as far as I know, no law has been passed, anywhere, against just downloading. Yes, people have been charged with selling downloaded music or movies for commercial gain. They are supposed to be licensed outlets and pay fees. This is a crime of Fraud. So if there ain't no law, there ain't no crime.
A nurse, in Ayrshire in Scotland, downloaded music, initially for herself. Working in a hospital, with a big staff, she began taking orders for albums and burning them on blank discs. She then took it further and began making up playlists and selling them to pubs and clubs as musak. The performing rights society caught the pubs and clubs, which led back to Florence Download and she appeared in Court on fraud charges, not downloading ones!! She got silly community service for making thousands of pounds.!
The new kid on the block, kodi, has gazzillions of add ons to a basic template, allowing you to watch live TV, of any genre, all over the World. They also have music, concerts and movies, just like pirate bay. Kodi has no security and the add ons are subject to man in the middle attacks which makes them fail, regularly! Browser add ons like Hola allow international TV watching as well.
The BBC in the UK demand about £150 per year, per household, to watch live TV. Then they provide an I player to watch or download any broadcasted program. Thousands have cancelled their licence, obviously. Most TV companies have I players but they exist on advert selling not a fee. Recently married Rupert Murdoch owns Sky tv Star tv Fox and many more. His companies charge fees to watch movies and sports. He must be losing millions!!!
I used to pay out about £50 a month for fees and license. Now I pay nothing. Multiply this by others like me. That is a loss of £600 a year from me alone. Would you buy shares in these companies? Will Jerry's divorce money from dancing Mick prop him up??
Paying fees to watch entertainment is now dead and gone. Finished. I can't understand why peeps go to concerts, see little and pay much, when they can watch quality video, at home, a few months later. Could this be the end of concerts, this Summer?? Or will peeps continue to camp in mud baths during torrential rain in the UK?
What comes next? Artists need to record, actors have to strut their stuff. So who is going to pay them?
Well it ain't peeps in the Western World. So Africa, China and Asia are the new markets, where peeps don't have internet or computers, because they are too poor. Why do you think that container loads of second hand I phones are going to India and elsewhere? The West has 5g whereas they have 3g connections,if at all. Yep money money money, from anywhere, is till the big game.
