Say Goodbye To The $1 Bill And Hello To The $1 Dollar Coin | Forex
So is America going the same way as the UK did years ago and phasing out paper money in favour of longer lasting coinage? In the UK, only Scotland was allowed to use paper £1 notes after England Wales and N.Ireland got rid of the Bank of England issued, pound note.
In Scotland, the Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank are allowed to issue paper money. The Bank of Ulster can also do so in N. Ireland. So, we had notes and English pound coins
Then came the £2 coin and the £5 coin which is not in general use but has been minted.
Coins survive longer than paper money but you go home with a pocket full of metal, worth a fortune, in change for paper.
