Well America gets four more years of Obama and the onward march to Socialism continues driven on by Black and Hispanic groups.
America has always been a very money orientated country. If you have money in America then you are okay. However if you have no money then you are treated with scorn. The almighty Dollar has been king.
It took centuries for black people to even be allowed to vote!! in the 1960's there was still segregation of black and white. About 90% of the white voters were Republican and 10% Democrat and so money shaped everything.
My aunts and uncles moved to America from Scotland in the late 50's and I remember this story about my aunt being taken ill and needing an ambulance. My uncle went in the ambulance with her. Along the road he realised that the siren was not on and so said to the driver,'what about the siren?' The reply,' the siren is $10 extra.'
After my first visit to America my mother and I were grossly overweight on the return flight. My uncle said that he would sort it. So I enquired. He says to me,' I fold a one Dollar bill to show the 1 very plainly. The guy thinks it is a ten dollar bill and hey presto. He was right!! He knew every trick as he had paid his way through American education by parking cars.! Two of my uncles had university degrees from Scotland. These were not recognised and they had to go through the whole American system to get American degrees!!!
This summed it all up for me America was not for me.
Britain has all sorts of political parties of both right and left wing persuasions. This mix curbs the extravagances of the far right and the far left. The ideal party would have elements of both wings in it and that fiction is deemed to be in the centre of a line.
The Conservative party is right of centre and the Labour party is left of centre. The Liberals are not as far right as the Conservatives and are a little right of centre. The Scottish National party are slightly left of centre, but are dubbed as tartan Conservatives by the Labour left, just because they are nearer to the centre than Labour are in their policies.
All of this mix ensures that we, in Britain, get both the benefits and the hassles of party fighting and cannot be said to go, completely, one way or the other. America is totally right wing with no left wing opposition to speak of to keep the right in check. The Republicans are far right and the Democrats are right of centre.
This is the problem in America. it is all money, money and little care for the have nots. Whereas in Britain we have free medicine and many State benefits for those out of work and/or unable to work. America has panhandlers and food stamps!!
The black and Hispanic communities are more prepared to give a helping hand to those down on their luck and they venerate their families. As they grow in numbers and become voters, they are pulling America in toward the centre from the far right wing and the monied people do not like it one bit. I heard an interest statement from a Republican this morning. He said that they lost because they did not take into account the Hispanic voters or listened to their views. They have, grudgingly, allowed the blacks people to have a say after the Civil Rights Movement fought for their rights. Now they must consider the Hispanics who are the fastest growing racial group in America.
The days of slaves on the plantation are over and the newer times of plantation America in which the blacks and Hispanics are the wage slaves producing wealth for the right wing are now coming to an end with the Obama win.
America is being reined in toward the centre for the right wing and they just don't like it. However like the end of the slave trade they are going to get it whether they like it or not . Britain went through all of this during the Industrial Revolution. The far right invented a middle class of managers to run factories and mines while the right enjoyed the profits. Unions were formed and slowly the right wing power was eroded and a more equal system has evolved, in which, every group is taken care of, in some way and not just having a one winner country. America has got to go the same way. Most economically viable countries have done so and America just has to join in or fail, completely, as the Russian hard left did, so disastrously.
The way forward has to be middle of the road.
