Light Bulbs.

When is a light bulb not a light bulb? When it is called a Compact Fluorescent Light! These things are now all over Europe and the USA is about to make them compulsory too" Britain actually banned the sale of ordinary bulbs and people went out and stocked up. However if you know a guy in a garage then chat him up for an inspection lamp bulb as they are allowed to use them while working under cars.

That to me says it all. These things pump out a massive(ho ho) 11 watts compared to a 60w or bigger bulb so for safety of a car it is okay but in the home do we all get fitted with radar!!

I cannot read a book or newspaper under them. This in turn leads to eye strain and a pounding headache. In addition, these things have Mercury inside them which is a very poisonous substance. Admittedly it is a small amount from 1 to 3 mg but what happens when we try to get rid of them??? They should not be put in landfill sites but are we going to have a check on every bag in every bin in the country in order to see if there are whole or broken light bulbs I think not.

The proper way is to take them back to your supplier who is legally bound in most of Europe to retain these things for specialist recycling. The cost of this is included in the purchase price. Saving money on the cost of electricity is taken away with the fee for disposal as I see it. However those "lies, damn lies and statistics" folks can prove savings of $30 in the USA by changing bulbs. Gee whiz..
