I am pretty sure that the Russian aircraft had a barometric bomb on board. It was a soft target, blown up in revenge for Russian advances against ISIS in Syria. Egypt is a hotbed for various Muslim groups and I doubt if Egyptian airports were very well policed to prevent a bomb being placed on a plane.
