Why  ?  America is in the death throws of Empire, just as Empires have gone before. Empires don't work. Look at history. The Roman Empire got to big. They did not have enough men under arms to keep it  going. The Austro Hungarian Empire blew apart with plotting and intrigue in the Balkans.

The French Empire was too stretched and suffered from the independence demands in Indo China which was later called Vietnam. The British Empire blew apart with demands for independence

Empires just don't work.
