I would have thought that this was rather obvious! It is much cheaper to fund and supply old stock piled armaments to a favourable opposition to fight a proxy War than to invade.This can all be done, in relative secrecy,leaving those supplied with a huge bill, should they win and take office.The bill can then be paid, using the mineral wealth of the country concerned.

After the madness of WW 1 and WW 2, economic warfare was found to be more acceptable than loosing millions of lives.Just look at the over thrown Governments and country takeovers since the Korean War.....
