English will not invade Scotland, but it can get ugly | Columnists | BDlive
There is certainly a load of scaremongering and propaganda going round about the possibility of Scotland becoming independent.
In fact, had Charles Edward Stewart's forces pushed on from Derby and taken the walled city of London, things could have been the other way round. !! Why he retreated, having fought down the length of England,we will never know. Londoners were starving and throwing dead animals and bodies over the city walls. They were under siege conditions then, but this is now.
As far as I am concerned, independence means standing alone. Why should we continue to use the pound, with the Queen of England's head on it,anyway? Why not have our own currency, named the Alba and let it float on the international money markets. As an independent country, it is only right that we apply for membership of the EU. Personally, I am against it.Well look at the state of the gravy train !!
Independence will cut off loads of oil revenue from the Treasury from current and future fields. We should adopt the Norwegian system of 50% each. There are huge, untapped fields, off the west coast of Scotland out as far as Rockall in the Atlantic. The U.N. is trying to decide who owns it at present. It was,in fact, given to Scotland, by the vikings, as were the Western Isles,Orkney and Shetland, in settlement. Currently,Denmark,Iceland,Ireland and Britain are in dispute over ownership. Some years ago,an ex SAS guy pitched a tent on Rockall and stayed there for 22 days,I think from memory, as a stunt to ensure that it was British.
The English are in panic mode and I can see a sneaky move coming,as has happened in the past. Remember the sudden 40% rule ??
