One Olympic record London won't be proud of: Security firm estimates 67,000 mobile phones will be stolen during the Games | Mail Online

If phones are the only things stolen then it will be a good event.   Credit Cards,cheque books, money, travellers cheques and especially Passports will also be prime targets.
I saw a great system in Amsterdam. In hotel foyers, there are loads of lock boxes for hire. We put our passports and valuables in there and withdraw enough cash to use on a per day basis. While I agree that you can find them in big stations, they may not be near to where folks are staying for the Olympics
