The place for cyclists is now the cycle path and not on a road jockeying with huge buses, bendy buses, artic lorries with forty foot long trailers and motorists. The cyclist is now restricted to the pavement side of the road where the most potholes and rough tarmac are situated. I see them, continually, swerving round potholes without looking behind them. This creates a domino effect with people behind them swerving to avoid them!!!
At least a motorbike can sit on the crown of the road to avoid the potholes and has some power to move along in traffic.But cyclists just ain't safe out there and are too slow to be there anyway!
Cyclists have no insurance nor have they any type of registration. So if a cyclist scores along the length of your car with a pedal then you must take out a civil action for damages if, it's a big if, you get the real details of the rider.
Pedal bike couriers continually jump traffic lights, use pedestrian crossways, use the pavements and many ride potential death traps in the pursuit of more deliveries for more money! There is no driving test for push bike owners. There is no annual mechanical test for a push bike. It is up to the owner to have a working horn or a bell and a working light at the front and rear of every bike by law and that's it!!!
So therefore, no, I'm sorry, but I must ask the Government to keep bikes off the roads !!!
