IMO it has been stupid to try to replace petrol/diesel cars with electric ones as the range only increases by loading more batteries which raises the weight needing more power and on and on
the e scooter idea of hiring is ideal for e cars. you drive to the edge of cities, park securely, then hire an e car or take a bus or city train.
