The turn of the century was termed as the roaring nineties. The Queen had been mourning following the death of her consort PrinceAlbert and England had followed her lead. Everything was drab drab drab! Music halls were going great guns and the most popular song was sung by Vester Tilly and named Champagne Charley is my name. This told of the current 'in thing' being sprinkling cocaine on top of the bubbles in a glass of champagne!!
Winnie came back from Africa a total junkie, as his sister continued to send him drugs. He never changed. He was also drinking very heavily and that never changed either. But hey he got through terms at the Admiralty and in Parliment.
I became a hater of him when I found out that he sanctioned the thousand bomber raids suggested by 'Bomber' Harris of the RAF. These bombing raids deliberately targeted civilians in German cities. The Americans did daily bombings and the RAF did the night bombings. The plot was to bomb civilians in the hope that the people would write to their fighting folks and get them to surrender. Just like Londoners, during the Blitz, the Germans said, 'nein!'
