I stopped eating the traditional Scottish fish supper many years ago for this very reason. The 'normal' fish supper contained Whiting as a rule. But Cod, an English fish supper ingredient, began to sneak in.

The problem,of course, is the legal description.A fish supper contains fish.fried in batter,along with chips. No name of fish is mentioned and there actually is no weight mentioned either. To get round this I now ask for,what is called, a special fish supper. This is described as Haddock,covered in breadcrumbs and then deep fried,with chips.Yes,it is a bit dearer,but I know what I'm getting and it is sold as Haddock.
