If I was not in the happy position that I am in, with my propane heaters and buying cylinders in advance, I would certainly consider rigging my electricity meter not to record high usage. The penalty for tampering with an electricity supply in the uk is a fine, if they catch you !!! But this would be a desperate measure
Big bills,after a hard Winter, can be a problem. But companies normally demand that you install a pre paid meter and pay off the outstanding amount as you buy more electricity. So you can catch up over Spring/Summer. You then have a pre pay meter for the oncoming Winter which means no big bills. I have a pre pay meter for my electricity needs.
