Outdoor shows are getting so complicated these days with the lighting rigs, lifts, multi level staging, for the various bands and the huge telescreens that accidents are bound to happen.
at these Concerts there is a local crew to do the heaving and unloading of the heavy stuff. These guys and gals are just cheap labour provided by the promoter and paid in cash. They have no qualifications and can be unskilled. There are now courses within the City and Guilds education group to cover concert staging.
The problem is time. Roadies and techies are setting up on stage while people are working above them using canes to position light gantries. This should not happen as gravity often takes a hand.  Now it could be a screw driver or a hammer or a length of gantry.
At Loch Lommond some years ago,for an Oasis gig, a local crew member was killed and others injured, when a PA Stack fell on them, pushed over by a forklift truck. Eventually, there was a Court case and the site agent in charge, for the promoter and the promoters, themselves, were fined heavily for operating an unsafe site.
These stages must be built from the top down in future and only when the upper structures are up and secure should anyone be on stage below.
