China is fighting a huge population explosion by Government intervention. It has been known for second children to be given away and/or sold to childless couples who may be relatives or friends. Often, a pregnant wife is sent away to relatives, to have a second or third child to avoid a forced abortion. Many foetuses are just thrown out with the trash and not buried, in some hospitals.
