This pothole game is a huge con. Councils are insured for damage to third parties and their property. So the refuse to repair potholes and pass the damage claims onto their insurers. Many people still do not know that they can claim for damage from Councils and just don't bother. This makes Councils and insurance companies happy. If you sustain damage due to a pot hole,this is what to do..............

Take a photo of the damage.  Take a photo of the pot hole with a daily newspaper in shot to show the date and relative size against the paper. A ruler is better but not everybody has one. Note where and when.

Submit your claim to the Council along with receipts and a note of out of pocket expenses such as taxi fares,etc.  Keep phoning them!!
