The Scottish version T in the Park goes the same way. T in the Park first appeared at Hamilton Race course before moving to Balado.

The brewers, Tennants, had supplied the Blue Angels motorcycle club with booze for their annual bike show the year before. They had had smaller events in past years, but needed a bigger venue. So Hamilton was booked for a weekend and bikers from all over Britain and Europe attended and camped out. The main tent held 2,000 people and there were other tents with discos and smaller bands. Pitches were rented out and entry fees were taken.

Tennants watched it working and realised that it would be a great thing for them to do. After all they had the megabucks to bring big name bands. The headline band for the Blue Angels gig got about £2,000 and traveled up from Leeds, which is a far cry from most T in the Park bands!  Other bands got less on a sliding scale. Some played for free, just to be there. The concept proved to be a great success and it has become the biggest music festival in Scotland.
