A thought struck me yesterday regarding independence. Scotland will now be a foreign country as far as England is concerned and the only people issueing credit cards will be the banks.

Most Card companies are based in England and are working under English Law. This has caused them to lose billions in unpaid credit card bills. They have a huge problem getting any money back from a resident of Scotland and normally just abandon the effort.

A card company must firstly engage an English lawyer, who cannot appear in a Scottish Court. This English firm must then engage a Scottish legal firm to act as their agents, to pursue a Scottish resident. This is a costly business, with fees all round and no guarantee of success. So anybody with a debt of a couple of thousand pounds has little to bother about, as it just ain't worth the costs. This is why credit Card interest is so high.

So,after independence, will any English firm deal with a Scottish resident??
