Is defrosting the freezer the easiest way to cut energy bills overnight?

Is defrosting the freezer the easiest way to cut energy bills overnight? | Mail Online

A freezer can be off for about 18 hours without any damage being caused to the food. You can buy a timer unit, which plugs into the wall and then plug your freezer into the timer, This regulates when it is on or off.

Say that you set your freezer to be off 8 hours per day. That gives a saving of 56 hours per week or 2,912 hours per year, for which you do not pay for electricity. If you put it off during the day and on during the night, on off peak, you can save an awful lot of money.

I use these timer switches all over the house. I could never be bothered putting things off,I just left them on stand by, which is 90% of normal useage anyway!!  So the timers put things like Computers,Stereos,Televisions, video recorders, sky units off for 10 hours per day and switches them on again, when I want them

For the cost of about £10 a unit it must be a big saving in return for any household. I certainly save a fortune.!!..
