'We will not pick up toxic new bulbs': Councils say energy-saving lights are too dangerous for binmen 

When these bulbs burn out a person is supposed to take it to a supplier who has facilities to store them safely for collection. Sounds pretty fair. Just try to find a shop to take them!
People will find it much easier just to drop them in the bin and should they break then a refuse disposal and recycling engineer may be showered with Mercury dust. If the dust misses them then it may be blown anywhere.
Should fines be imposed and fingerprints taken from bulb remains??? Even if this stupidity comes round, the bulbs will just be wiped and flung out of car windows or just flung,anywhere.!
