I don't know about attempted bump offs but I still think that he is just playing to the Generals back home. This guy is not the usual drunk,drugged up despot like Idi Amin was, for instance. He has had a good education and knows what the score is as far as the nutty Generals are concerned. So he has to have a pantomime every now and again.
