Most island races pay more money to import stuff which they need. They only have one form of bulk delivery which is by sea. No raod or rail compition allows ship owners to charge as they please. Bulk air delivery is too costly and can only be used with valuable small items like diamonds.ShipTransport or indeed the lack of ship transport, puts up prices in addition to any increase in unit production costs
