If you wander over England, on Google Earth, you will see loads of disused war time runways, which are owned by the Ministry of Defence. Some were rented out to glider and private flying clubs but most re just fenced off. Many are used for music festivals.
There are a few in Scotland, too, which were used for ferry flights from America during WW2 Tea in the Park venue being the famous one.
