It really is so obvious what is currently happening in America. The Repulicrats have had it too good for so long that they have forgotten that people are people and not just producers of wealth for them or factors of production as they say in Economics text books.
Britain went through the same changes, hundreds of years ago, during the Industrial Revolution when the Middle Class was born to act as a filter between wealth and the manufacturers of that wealth, the miners,the farmers and the cotton mill owners. You gotta give something back,sometimes and the British realised that.
The flood gates then opened and in came Unions to give people better conditions and out of it all has come a party socialist and partly wealth driven system which is called a mixed economy in those same books.
Russia was the exact opposite and the State ran everything there, as a commune of sorts.People applied to the State for everything including a place to live. the system was so corrupt,eventually that it failed in near revolution with tanks, in Moscow firing at the White House as it came to be named. Russia is now heading toward a mixed Economy.
China, too, have had their transitions from crazy Emperors, Boxer Rebellions,to the long march of Ho Chi Min to Mao and there commune is collapsing now too. They are heading toward a mixed Economy.
America is the only Empire left which is not a mixed economy or anywhere near it. People are no longer, even factors of production, as robots and computers do most of the work and people just push buttons and change a piece now and then. People, in production, are becoming obsolete and the way of thinking is to get rid of them through culls. Empty containers and useless eaters are common phrases as companies are slimmed down and people are replaced by machines. this cannot go on and so it is time for a change.
Which way will it go is the problem. To have an anti machine change is simply going back to the Luddite view of the British Industrial Revolution when machines were smashed. So the people have to be given something.
In Britain it was realised that half a loaf was better then none at all and the wealthy appeared to give in. They still had their lifestyle and over time saw  that they were actually making more wealth as people were happier and produced more.
There just comes a time when it costs to much to produce the same amount of stuff. This is the Economic law of diminishing marginal returns. America has reached the top of the peak and can only fall down the slope on the other side, unless they change. They have to give a little bit as the Supertramp song said and change is essential to do that,otherwise total colapse will result.
