Unfortunately, Nigeria has always had a North / South feud going on. There are two main tribes and each is politically,religiously and economically opposed to each other. Election after election was just a flip flop one, with one side undoing whatever the other had previously done. Thus they got nowhere. The main power base and oil are in the South,too.
When Goodluck Jonathan won his first election, he asked the leader of the Northern faction to be deputy prime minister. He also put Northerners into ministerial positions. It worked for a few years, but now things look as if they are going back to where they were years ago.
