Guess who couldn't come to work in the snow because of health and safety (perhaps the binmen are still getting over their epic Christmas break) |

I can remember, in my childhood,in Scotland, when the binmen hoisted metal bins on their shoulders, carried them out to the truck and replaced them back into the bin area. They would also  take away excess rubbish, brush up and collect any rubbish lying about in the bin area.
Now we have to roll out and return our wheelie bins at certain times. We must ensure that they are closed and we are only allowed one bin per household.  Not only all of his bit if it is icy then we get no service at all.
Nowadays they are no longer called binmen. They are now domestic refuse disposal engineers. Personally, if my rubbish was left in the street for a considerable time, I would set fire to it. I would rather pay a fine, if I was caught, than suffer from rats and/or diseases.
