Yes I must take my hat off to the engineer, who said that he forgot to look at the bad bit of track. He had notified his bosses, a year before. he also told them since that E mail, that the schedule to check the track, on a weekly basis, just did not work.
No doubt all sorts of pressure was brought to bear on him, to prevaricate and thus reduce the settlement and spread the blame, but he was a honest man.
The driver too, was wonderful! He was bounced about his cab, perhaps seatbelts should be introduced, suffering a back injury. He still managed to reach his mobile phone, to alert others, which brought help much quicker and possibly avoided another train coming, either way, from running into the pile up. Well done to both of them!! No doubt, the engineer will be sacked and never work again, for his honesty.
