Shetland can certainly cover the North Sea oil industry rig. Stornoway can cover the West Coast of Scotland and some ways out into the Atlantic on radar.
But how are they going to get assets to any trouble spot? The oil rigs are pretty well covered with helicopters and supply ships in the area every day. But Stornaway has one Search and Rescue helicopter. Air Ambulances are based in Glasgow at the Clyde heliport, but the crews have no rescue training.
