Four climbers killed in Swiss Alps: police

The Local - Four climbers killed in Swiss Alps: police

Why do people climb mountains? Because they are there, is the simple answer. i have never understood the need to pit oneself against the worst possible conditions that a person could find just to torture oneself to succeed in reaching the top of a pile of rock!!
Now I can understand rescue units having to train, to save crash survivors, who may be, way up in a snow covered mountain top in an Armani suit or military pilots and so on. I could even understand the military going up they training to carry out daring do on behalf of QE2. But why should ordinary people bother?
Of course, many people have to be rescued. This costs a lot of money and there is a risk to the crews. But the clown, who goes for a walk in her Jimmy Choo's and him with the open toed sandals and shorts on, who, regularly, get into difficulties, as the weather can change so quickly, don't have to pay a penny! i think that there should be degrees of difficulty allotted and a minimum specification of kit required in the circumstances, then there should be an insurance policy taken out, to cover the cost of rescue, based on the difficulty listings.
