St Kilda is way out in the Atlantic towards America. It was inhabited by folks who left in the 1930's. They had lived on fishing, some weaving and a very little tourism, mostly by horny bird watchers or Ornithologists.
They were supplied with everything by ship, via the mail boat or special service boats, stopping off on route to and from America. In bad weather they got nothing It was a very rough life out there.
More and more it is being mention as like Rockall, the most Westerly Scottish land mass, there is oil out there, deep under the Atlantic.
