Dominique Strauss-Kahn: Will ex-IMF chief stand trial for Tristane Banon 'rape'

Dominique Strauss-Kahn: Will ex-IMF chief stand trial for Tristane Banon 'rape' | Mail Online

I had thought that this was an attempted rape allegation, bad enough, if true, which I strongly doubt. She actually has said that he allegedly opened her bra and attempted to open her jeans during a 2002 or 3 interview, some 8 years ago. She has quoted both years in different interviews. It was to have been a Civil action, by her, which she could have withdrawn, at any time, without penalty. Now a French prosecutor is inquiring as to whether it was indeed a criminal attempted rape. Should he go to trial, and she loses, as she most probably will as she has no witnesses to the actions, she will certainly be penalised with perjury, at least, should she repeat her story under oath. This has escalated rather a lot and DSK could get up to 15 years. Could a French jury, possibly convict him, on such flimsy evidence or will they see it for what it is.? Attention seeking.
I detest people who cry rape, falsely. They should get life, as mud slung, tends to stick, for the rest of the innocent person's life. It is hard enough for a victim to be believed in the first place, to face the alleged rapist in Court, to suffer the indignity of swab taking, internal examinations and the continual repetition of their story. Normally followed by a harrowing Court appearance, perhaps, following press speculation and certainly with the probability of subjection to a stern cross examination, unless a guilty plea is entered.
Rape,of any kind, is a terrible violation of a person's body. Men as well as women and kids can be raped. Rape or the threat of it, can be used as a control mechanism, to force people to do things which they would not normally do, or to break down barriers in the mind, leading to compartmentalisation and all sorts of mental health issues. Rape, as a weapon of War should, in my view, result in a life sentence for the natural life of the folk who carry it out. They may just have been framed and so my anti Death penalty views come into play, but only just.
I could be wrong, but why, in a civilised country, did she take so long to come out with her story? Why now?
Did she believe that he would go down for the new York debacle and she would get a free ride on the coat tails of that incident. Who knows.? She could now be facing some serious repercussions. Can a reporter ever be alone with an interviewee, again??? Information, which may have been given on a one to one basis, may now never be given, should there be a need for minders.
