They got an internet connection, so use Skype or similar VOIP to provide an internet phone. They got mobiles too. They could buy a satellite phone for about £1,000. They could use the lack of phone as an advert gimmick " come here and get away from the phone. "
I think they have just used the paper to get a lovely free advert here. As a bit of thought can solve the problem.
