IKCO to unveil new car next week

PressTV - IKCO to unveil new car next week

Just the thing to run about in. It seems like yesterday, actually over 40 years ago, when the whole tooling and machinery for the Hillman Hunter was moved from the Chrysler Car Plant in Linwood, Scotland to Iran in the days of the Shah. They needed the room to build the Chrysler Avenger which became a bit of a joke. It featured push up pop down door handles which fell out in your hand. On numerous occasions cars left the factory to go to the dealers with no reverse gear, due to a lack of tooling for machines, to keep production numbers up. When there was a glut of cars the management 'engineered' a strike.
The whole plant was a bad joke. Union shop stewards, who continually caused strikes, were given office jobs at their hourly rate and shift allowances to get them out the way. They then did office hours at shop floor 3 shift rates, which is exactly what many wanted. Strikes were called as a first resort all the time and bets were taken to see if a full week or month would go by without a dispute..
