$14 trillion in debt !!! Sell the goldfish, we need the money !!! The USA is going to find it difficult enough to pay the interest and charges on the loans never mind pay back the principle. It took the UK until the 1970's to repay the loan and interest on the stuff you gave us during WW 2. Those old WW 1 mothballed ships for instance, some still with genuine bullet holes in them or was that rust ?
So the Government just either prints more money as it is doing just now, devaluing the Dollar by stealth. The higher number of Dollars, now, divided into the same pot, makes each Dollar worth less than it was before more were printed. Or the sell more Treasury Bonds which give an interest rate and a future repay date as agreed. But these Bonds must be bought from the Federal Reserve Bank who issues and covers the Bonds for a fee, of course. Then the Fed loans the Government the money to buy the Bonds that the Fed issues!! What a sweet racket !!!! oh and who bought all the T Bonds.....China. Now as the Dollar devalues the Bonds are now worth less in real terms. Conversely the Chinese income from the sale of the Bonds is now worth more, again, in real terms.
Oil is increasing in price but not necessarily because demand has increased but more because the Dollar, in which oil is priced, is devalued. So the price must rise in order to maintain the same profit margin for the sellers. America buys oil, paying in Dollars. But the cost of the oil has been hit as it needs more Dollars to buy the same amount of oil So more borrowed, to pay the extra cost to buy the same amount of oil. To come back and do it all again as supplies run out and they have to buy more.............Big debts.
But how do you foreclose on a country ? I suppose you all sit down in a padded room with a map and a pair of scissors. Creditor says' This bit for half your debt. Deal or no Deal?' War !!
