Hate to say it but some gangs scuttle ships so that there are no witnesses and just keep the money. They make promises that they can't keep, to desperate people, who they know they can't land anywhere without getting caught. If 260 Afghans suddenly appeared on your High Street they would be noticed just as quickly as they would be in Italy.
Some have been rescued. So I'm sure that the full story will come out over the next few days. Some folks will be packing bags as I write this, in order, to bolt to safer places, with no extradition treaties with Italy !!
