Personally I would ban Facebook as the owners/operators have an "I'm all right Jack/Tracy attitude."
This opt out only is a stupid idea just to save them computing time involved in a few extra lines of program and storage space.
As long as the "cost per member" figures are low things will be fine. Outside apps need their own storage space and just either sell to FB or commission per user to gain income.
The problems will arise when the cost per member approaches the incoming costs per member then that wonderful Economics Law cuts in "The Law of Diminishing Marginal Returns" and it begins to cost more in outlay for each additional member who joins up. Then the bubble will burst. Of course the owners will have dumped their shares as that figure approaches.
