Supposedly formed the Scottish Rite of Freemasons when they escaped to Scotland after the purge by King Philip the Fair in France. Philip had bribed the Pope to excommunicate them so they could not go to England and instead landed on both the East and West Coast of Scotland at Leith and Argyllshire
